Hip-hop, heels, and jazz-funk dancers pick up rhythm, groundedness, and musicality from dancehall that carries over into every other style.
Anyone who wants community
Dancehall classes have a high-energy, social feel. It's a great fit if you want to move, sweat, and feel part of a room.
What to expect in a dancehall class
Dancehall classes break down the foundational steps of Jamaican social dance, from the classic moves to choreography from the current scene. We credit the culture and history the dance comes from as part of every class.
Each class opens with a rhythm-focused warm-up to get your body moving with the music, then the instructor breaks the steps down one at a time until the whole room can run them together. Expect footwork, attitude, and a lot of energy.
No partner and no experience is needed. Classes are paced so beginners can keep up while still capturing the vibe and community feel that makes dancehall so much fun.
What students say
“The first thing I noticed about classes at Kollective was how welcoming of an atmosphere Kezea created. At my previous dance studios it felt like nobody really cared, but at Kollective if I'm not there people will notice (in a good way!). It's a wonderful safe space from all the toxicity and competition often found in other studios.”
“Kezea is one of the most creative, patient, and dedicated people I’ve ever met. Her passion for dance is absolutely contagious, and her teaching style strikes the perfect balance between challenging and fun. She has an incredible gift for pushing you out of your comfort zone while still building on your pre-existing strengths. Every class with her will challenge you in the best way possible. Even after moving an hour away, I still made the trip to attend her classes — I simply couldn’t get enough.”
